Traction & MRL
Typically, traction motors are used in modernisations where a motor room is being retained, or in instances where the passenger capacity and lift car size dictate a large motor that cannot be installed within the lift shaft. For low-rise installations, installation costs are generally very similar – apart from the space and cost savings of not having a motor room.
From the maintenance aspect, a traction drive can be visually inspected without the need to take the lift out of service.
Machine Room Less (MRL) Lifts
Most new low to medium rise lifts are based on MRL drive systems, providing space-saving advantages of not having a motor room.
Although Apex Lifts have a manufacturing facility, we do not manufacture lift motors but instead partner with some of the most well-respected independent drive and control specialists in Europe. MRL drives are powered by AC current and use a permanent-magnetic synchronous motor which provides lower energy consumption over equivalent traditional traction motors.
The lift car, and all of the equipment on the landings, will have the same appearance as found with Hydraulic or Traction products.
